Volunteer Program

Due to health and safety reasons,Humane Society volunteers must be age 16 or older and all volunteers are required to attend an in-house orientation. We offer a family friendly volunteer program for families with children ages 10 –15 where the family attends orientation and volunteers together;children must be accompanied by a parent/guardian at all times.

The Humane Society of Northwest Montana is a private,non-profit 501(c)(3) limited admission,no-kill animal adoption center whose mission is “to promote compassionate care, perpetuate the bond between animals and humans, and end the destruction of healthy, adoptable pets so that every animal finds a loving home.”Our focus is on finding caring, loving homes for orphaned or abandoned dogs and cats in the Flathead Valley and surrounding areas.

The success of our mission depends on the local community;a dedicated staff,a devoted team of volunteers, and financial support through donations, corporate sponsors, grants and fundraising events. Because we are not an affiliate of any national animal welfare or humane organization,we do not receive any financial assistance from these groups and we do not receive any city, county, state,or federal funding either. In order to provide food and shelter for our orphaned animals,we must consistently work to raise donations to cover daily operational costs.

In addition to caring for the cats and dogs seven days a week,we also facilitate pet adoptions, provide animal welfare education in schools, provide pet food assistance to families in need, reunite lost and found pets with their owners, participate in local community events, provide low-cost microchip clinics to the public, work to strengthen community relationships by joining efforts with other local non-profit groups with like-minded goals, and sponsor an injured animal fund to assist injured pets in need of emergency medical attention who may not otherwise receive the medical care they need. All of these projects and programs require time, talent and resources and that’s why we need your help!

If you would like to join in the fun, please make plans to attend an upcoming Volunteer Orientation meeting at the Humane Society. Volunteer orientation is scheduled monthly on a Saturday. The one and one-half hour meeting begins at 11 a.m. and orientation dates are listed on the website.
